We Were The 80's

Welcome to the 80's! It's 80's day!

Photobucket

In the 80's I carried a Disc Camera at all times
that is why my pictures are all blurry.

In the 80's, you didn't get your hair colored at the Salon, you got a bottle of Sun Inthen you regretted it and went to the Salon

In the 80's I shaved both sides of my head thank goodness I have no photo's of it, and was

also able to hide it under the rest of my hair. But my sister totally rocked the Cyndi

Lauper hair style!

In the 80's, it was scary to eat at Taco Bell if I was working there!
Yes, I think the cheese fell out of my mouth and back into that pan.

In the 80's you could wear your underwear over your clothes as long as you had your Swatch Watch on and Add a Bead necklace.

no I didn't really wear the outfit out like that...........that I can remember.

In the 80's it was a male magnet to wear two swatch watches at the same time, a bonus if one had a swatch guardYes, I found a photo with me wearing two, just look closely, but that shirt is hideous and those glasses.

In the 80's, blue eye shadow was in with green mascara

In the 80's I also went thru ALOT of blue eyeliner
ok, so I thought it looked good then

In the 80's I didn't have a Raspberry Beret
but I had a nice Cherry one

In the 80's it was popular to take photo's with your friends in the bathroomwith that handy dandy disc camera

In the 80's it was also popular for your boyfriends parents to take photo's of you doing your hair in the BATHROOM after you went swimmingand were running late to your Taco Bell job
had to get their in time to drool in the cheese bin again.

Yes I will get on with the story now

In the 80's on Christmas night 1986, just hours after this photo was taken

of me rocking my swatch watch shirt and swatch watch, and 80's hair and earrings

Little did I know that I would be arrested. Why you ask? Well I was at my Taco Bell Christmas Party, which was held on Christmas night right up my street at a supervisors home. My sisters boyfriend asked me to drive him home, which was clear across town. I should of said "no" and drove the 2 blocks to my house. But I drove him home..........well okay, I didn't drive him home. I drove him all around town cause I was stupid and he asked me too. He had me drive him to a hotel which he stole the exit sign from, then he had me drive him around to find those big signs on ground that are lit up and have the letter wordings on them. He was stealing the letters off of them. I was the get away driver. We also ran another errand I will get to later. Well on about our 10th sign, he was juggling light bulbs when a police car drove up. The cop made us go all around town putting the letters back on the signs. BUT then the cop found out that one of the hotel exit signs was broken. So he arrested us.

In the 80's, if you were arrested, you got to drive yourself to jail, okay, maybe not for everyone, but he had me drive to the station to be processed. Weird huh. I should of out ran him;)

You also called your mother and told her to bring $100 that you had just gotten for Christmas, to the jail to bond you out.......hanging up on her when she started screaming.
In the 80's it was best to try and stop your mother from calling the newspaper to keep your name out of the paper. Because that would cause them to make a HUGE article with your name in it, when it normally would of been your name in little print under the arrest part of the paper. Not a WHOLE separate piece. Sadly, I didn't keep the paper. I didn't realize it would make for good blogging over 20 years later ;)

In the 80's, it was probably not a good thing to go by your ex boyfriends

HOME, and leave the sign letters that were stolen in his yard spelling out some bad words with his name in the beginning. Because he NEVER would of known it was you, if it wasn't for that HUGE piece in the paper about you being involved with the theft of letters off of signs.

oh you know I love me some mixed up fonts---so it's all good :)!

That story---HILARIOUS! Even with the, uh, "secret part" omitted :)!

And that your brought up double swatches with swarch guards and green mascara....brought those up in my post too!

Where's Mr. Linky anyway? Got mine all cut and pasted and ready to go!

I wonder if you would have liked my music in the 80's....???

HEE! Okay, the story was totally worth the wait!! I'm laughing my expansive rear end off here (not good as the rest of my house is still soundly asleep and it is still pitch black out!)

Oh, and I preferred to rock the bright blue eyeshadow-bright blue eyeliner-bright blue mascara look, myself. I distinctly remember thinking how HOT and GOOD I looked. Damn, I wish I pictures of that - maybe someplace in a box at my parents' house. I'll have to poke around at Christmas and see what I can find, because it was a blinding sight to behold!!!

I didn't have a beret, but I did have several hats, including some fedoras that seriously had belonged to my grandfathers (they of the last generation to actually wear hats like that for real and not a fashion statement like now). Yeah, I wore them to school and out in public and everything. LOL!

Loved this post! Hope you have a good day, despite the lack of sleep! :D

Holy crap! I forgot about disc cameras! Never shaved my head, but I was an orange headed Sun In girl.

Swatch watches, with guards, all tha way up to tha elbow.

Michelle said...

Oh what fun. I loved my disk camera, used it for years.

Wasn't it grand with no cell phones for your parents to call and check up on you and no computers or fancy video games. All you had to do was drive around town and steal signs.

Great pictures, great story and great hair!!

I love it!! I don't have any pictures here; they are still all at my mom's house. But, I am excited to see others and their pics!! I'm totally jealous that you and your sister were "cool" enough to shave your head. I would have never gotten away with it or been brave enough to try it. I didn't even have a rattail or anything. I did have the glasses like yours thought. Weren't they lovely!!

Best. Story. Ever.

Nope, never done that.

Can't believe you did it either. :D

This is UNbelievable! Oh my gosh, there is so much here. The STYLES! I love that you have them so well documented. My mom had the disc camera, but I did not, so alas, I pretty much have NO pictures of the 80s. Plus I was poor and couldn't afford film and developing. What a riot!

Danyele Easterhaus said...

oh the blue eyeliner...i think i bought a new stick every week! it had to bon thick and smeared around. loved that stuff. and, for the record, no one looks good in blue eye shadow...it should be outlawed!

This is the first blog post where I have actually laughed out loud and made noise while reading! I wish I had known about this earlier so I could have participated! I graduated HS in 85 with my asymmetrically shaved hair!

Love,love,love the pictures.

Remember 100 speed film? And having to change the flash squares on top of your camera?

You need to give your sister as much sh!t as possible for that shaved head hairstyle.

I think you had a bunch of green/blue eye crap running in your eyes. You're really squinty in that picture. Nice shirt too btw.

your sister totally looks like molly ringwald in the picture below the eyeliner fiasco of the 80's picture.

What a good sport you are putting all those pictures out there!

Kari said...

This was a great post. Loved all the pics and you had me laughing and nodding most of the way through it.

This was so much fun & a walk down memory lane.
I had many of the same mistakes that you had.
I totally remember the swatches, I had a couple for my wrists & believe it or not I sometimes wore one on my ankle. I know I was a little odd!
I have to tell you though the picture of you doing your hair in the bathroom, the guy with you looks just like I kid I went to school with his name is Shaw.
Crazy.

You ALMOST scared me away from Taco Bell. It's my favorite fast food place to go. When I was 5 it was my favorite and now 22 years later I still order the same thing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

magpie said...

That was super cool! I loved it!

Those pictures are the best. I totally remember the whole shaving the sides of your hair thing, I'm so glad my mom never let me do that. Your story was the best, I never got arrested in the 80's but in College, I got a good chewing out from the police for holding on to the back of my roommates truck while roller blading.

He was my ex-boyfriend. ;) Looked it up in my diary. I even wrote about it in there. I am sure you read it. lol

Ronnica said...

(Yes, I'm just now getting around to reading this. You were unfairly placed too low in my Reader. That has now been rectified).

This is hilarious. I love how your ex could easily figure out it was you who put the letters on his yard!

Preston said...

How funny! I had a dozen swatch watches including one that glowed in the dark. I still have a few of them tucked away as souvenirs! And who is that blond hunk in the bathroom with you? Wowsa. And you were so right about those guys in that picture with you. And that BIG HAIR! I'm almost peeing myself! I think we would have had a ball together if we knew each other in the 80's.
