Mercede was a huge Barney fan while growing up. Needless to say, a mom can only take so much. So I banned her from Barney. Mercede was so upset that she went thru all my video's looking for something she liked. Then in the corner cabinet, under five inches of dust, she found Dancing to the Oldies. For the next few years Mercede worked out with Richard every single day. During the summer she worked out 3 hours a day, while I laid on the sofa eating chocolate and cheese curls shouting "Go Mercede! Go Mercede!" She was his biggest fan........well okay, probably his smallest (wink, wink).
To cut a long story short. I pulled Mercede from school so she could attend a Woman's Conference in our home town that Richard Simmon's was going to be at. Surrounded by hundreds of large women (me being one of them), little, tiny, skinny Mercede worked out with them/us. She was near the front of the stage and Richard called her up on stage. Mercede is so happy to meet him! Oh Look at her face. When she does that mouth open, eye's rolled up toward heaven look, you know that she is on super excitement mode.
He pulls her to the front of the stage, and then Mercede lost it. She slapped him away. While we didn't get THAT photo, we did get the priceless look on his face after it happened.
If you ever meet Mercede, she will tell you her version of the story. It goes something like this......
"I slapped Richard Simmon's and made him cry."
While she did slap Richard, and while he did cry. It isn't a whole truth, since he was crying on stage about 15 minutes before she slapped him. But hey, her version makes for a better story.
That is too funny!! I love the pictures!
ReplyDeleteI used to sweat to the oldies back in the day. Richard is still wearing the same shorts now as he did then. Where oh where does this man shop??
Richard's face is priceless!
ReplyDeleteI'm an emotional person....I started crying when she got to meet Richard....then I cried in laughter cause she slapped him. Now my make-up is running! This is priceless!!!

ReplyDeleteSinner, Richard did some obscene things with those shorts. I was upset that my daughter and my mother had to witness it. He hiked them up and I tried to figure out how his ummmmmmmm, male part, didn't show. I have came to the conclusion that he has to tape it up. There is just no other explanation unless he doesn't have one.
ReplyDeleteHaHa!! That is funny. Glad you got pictures of it. Her story is more exciting!
ReplyDeleteLOL, my sister and I are laughing reading your post!!! Richard Simmons is soo ridiculously funny! I do like Mercede's version!

ReplyDeleteSnort! She's going to be telling that to her grandchildren! "I slapped Richard Simmons and made him cry!"
ReplyDeletePriceless!
The look on Richard Simmons face is truely priceless, good thing you captured it on film. I'm not sure which would be more annoying Barney or Dancing to the Oldies(which is covered in dust, in a box, in a closet at my house). You're a great Mom!
ReplyDeleteoh my GOD- i'm dying over here!!!! haha- that is classic! don't you LOVE that you get to tell that story??
ReplyDeleteWow! That is so cool.
ReplyDeleteSo yeah, I've already commented on this, but it's so funny that I have to comment again. I think that it's especially great that you got pictures of it!
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious! I would pay to see that. I don't know if I could handle Richard Simons every day, although if Barney was the other option....

ReplyDeleteOh, that is too funny. Making Richard Simmins cry. Haha!
ReplyDeleteoh that is hilarious! i am sure she made his day!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a priceless story. I too like your daughters version better.
ReplyDeleteAnd bless your heart, only a parent could know the pain we other parents go through letting our kids watch the same thing over ... and over ... and over.
You are a saint for letting her pick Richard Simmons, it has to take an iron will to stomach that one repeatedly.
Great story! Great experience for Mercede! My mom and I used to do Sweating to the Oldies. Everyone once in awhile I pull it out and try to get hubby to do it with me just for the laughs...laughing at Richard Simmons...of course!
ReplyDeleteYou know how much I love this story and I have already commented on it...but it is totally worth a second!
ReplyDeleteShe just cracks me up!
What a great story!!! Poor Richard he's always crying over something. Your blog is such an inspiration and your girls are beautiful. Happy SITS Day!
ReplyDeleteROFL I like her version of the story. What a hilarious photo capture too!

ReplyDeleteHappy day in the SITS sun!
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious! Why did she slap him?
I also have a Sweatin' with the Oldies tape...I don't know I've ever used it. I should.
Good old Richard Simmons. God bless him, he's just so...happy! Perhaps I was channeling myself through Mercede that day, hence why she slapped him, because I've wanted to SO. MANY. TIMES. Nobody should be that jovial and energetic all the time.
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS Day! I love this story and by the way, I love your "leave your comment." Oh how I would love to use this on my site.
ReplyDeleteCheryl
That is so funny! She is such a cute girl! And not many people can say they have slapped Richard Simmons and made him cry!! ;D
ReplyDeleteHow cute is she? What a great story. I think the look on Richard's face is much better than the actual slap. Very funny. Beats listening to Barney 8 million times.
ReplyDeleteGirl. Congratulations on being the feature today! This is an awesome post and I'm loving the visuals! You're right, the look on her face is absolutely priceless.
ReplyDeleteHow funny! I like her version of the story! :)

ReplyDeleteWonderful story, the kind you will tell all her boyfriends and embarrass her.
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny! She put him in his place!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's wonderful! Your daughter is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story..and how wonderful you got it all down in pictures...it's gonna give her something to talk about for years!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHa!!! I *love* her take on it! I prefer to call Barney (ack, even typing that is yucky) "He Who Must Not Be Named". Mine's 16 so I was right there with you in his hey day. Shudder.
ReplyDelete(sorry, forgot to proof read :) )
Well...I like Richard too but...I don't think I want him touching me either!! She looks happy in the picture!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny and I do like her version much much better!
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS Day! My brother in law just went to a costume party as Richard Simmons, I am dying to see photos. Yours are great :D
ReplyDeleteHi there!! Congrats on being featured today. This was a cute story.
ReplyDeleteI love it! You've got to stand up for your personal space. Isn't it funny what kids get obsessed with? I have a Michael Flatley fan (Lord of the Dance).
ReplyDeleteToo funny! Richard Simmons seems to be making a comeback! Haha Maybe she can slap him again. haha
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't I play bumper carts when I was able to fit in one? The next time they can start off the celebration folding my laundry? haha Looks like they had a blast!
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS day!
ReplyDeleteHilarious....
Wow. That's pretty entertaining. I banned Barney here, too (before he made an appearance so luckily I didn't have the same consequences). Great memories!
ReplyDeleteGreat story! I remember having to watch Richard Simmons as a kid at my babysitters house, I think he had his own show or something. That was ages ago! Wow.
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying your SITS day!
Well, thank goodness SOMEONE finally slapped him. I mean, seriously, those shorts, that went out of fashion (assuming they ever really *were* in fashion) decades ago? Those are a crime against humanity.
ReplyDeleteGo Mercede! :D
Cheers!
Haha. That's great!
ReplyDeleteThat story is hilarious!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS day; bask in your comment love!!
That is so funny, from start to finish! I know how you feel about Barney, and how funny that she replaced that with Richard Simmons! It's hilarious that she slapped him away! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a funny story. I cannot believe that she slapped Richard. The after photo is priceless.
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious! What I would have given to be a fly on the wall for that!
ReplyDeleteI'd already commented but had to come wish you happy SITS day!! Wasn't it a blast??!!
ReplyDeleteSuper funny... looks like Mercede is a diva. Divas of the world unite- we have found our mascot!

ReplyDeleteI probably would've done the same thing! LOVE that you have a picture of his face after the slap down, lol. What a great memory.
ReplyDeletehaha! Her *excited* face is so great! Gotta love when little ones' big dreams come true. It's so funny that she slapped him, too! I bet even he remembers that :)
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious. Why hasnt Richard Simmons aged one bit - he still looks the same as I remember him years ago, surely?
ReplyDelete
